Root Vegetable gratin

1  medium rutabaga
5 turnips or 2 big turnips
2 cups of grated smoked cheddar
2 cups of sugar
Peel all the root vegetable, then take a mandolin and thinly slice all of them ( slice the turnips and keep them by itself). If you don’t own a mandolin then cut 1/4 inch slice or as thin as you can. Take large pan and pour the sugar, turn on low heat. then process takes time you going to be making caramel. Once all the sugar is melted add about 1-2 cups of water slowly( so hot melted sugar does not slap on you). Add the turnips cook until most of the water is gone and mix every so often so nothing burns at the bottom. Set the oven at 375 degrees, Take a 9x9inch baking grease the pan and do one layer of a root vegetable and top it with cheese and repeat until the pan is full. Pour the cream into the pan until 3/4 full. Bake for 30 mins or longer until the cheese on top is golden and the vegetables are cooked through. You can check by using a cake test or small knife. poke if there no resistance then it’s done cut and serve.
